Performing the Readymade Again: Outline for a notional performance at the National Art Gallery of Singapore

1. Place a ceramic bedpan on a plinth before Redza Piyadasa’s Self-Portrait of the Artist as A Model, 1977.

2. Stand between the bedpan and the painting.

3. Address the audience in Malay and then proceed in English.

4. Extemporize a discourse at the interstices of ideas and painting, and of art and life.

5. Engage the audience in conversation.

Performing the Readymade was originally enacted as a video performance at Goldsmiths College, London in 1993. A mounted digital copy of the painting was used with the artist's permission.
