Dari Pusat Tasek 

When I returned to Malaysia in 2013 after 10 years away from home, one of the highlights of the occasion was my reunion with Hasnul Jamal Saidon. Our time together in Malaysian art was short but very productive. I believe, however, that beyond our collaboration in developing electronic art in Malaysian we forged an alliance that transcends materials, media and genre.One that is grounded in a common interest in the metaphysical and ethical aspects of art and of life in general. In recent years, Hasnul has been developing his praxis, grounded as it is in Islamic principles, in terms of Quantum Theory and notions of belas (compassion, charity, love).

 

I am deeply moved to have Hasnul write write about the Dari Pusat Tasek show at Percah Art Space, Lumut Waterfront.(Dec 2019 - Jan 2020). He has written as a friend as well as a practitioner and theorist of art, and his review goes to the at the heart of my work. Hasnul has reached beyond the play of signs of the Koboi Project, to touch the very simple belas that I believe is latent in the work.
